||||||||
On Sunday, July 2, the cast of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Canada took their final bow at the CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre. After 13 months and 446 performances, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child set a record for the longest-running professional play in Canadian history.
Thank you, Toronto, for embracing this incredible production, supporting the magnetic Canadian artists on stage, and believing in the magic of theatrical storytelling. |

AND BLOW MY TOP WITH MY BABY TONIGHT, BUT I’D BE A FLOP WITH BABY TONIGHT, ‘CAUSE IT’S TOO DARN HOT.” |
|||||
“Too Darn Hot,” Kiss Me, Kate, 1949
These wickedly naughty lyrics by Mr. Cole Porter are highly apropos for the sizzling month of July!
But this month it will be sizzling in another way — as we host not one but two of Broadway’s hottest shows at our theatres — Hamilton and Hadestown — playing side-by-side on King Street West. That means Luanne from HR can see two Tony-winning Best Musicals in one day or over two nights… in air-conditioned bliss! She’s already chosen her double-show day. Also this month our very own Canadian company of SIX The Musical begins rehearsals in Toronto before opening at Edmonton’s Citadel Theatre for a summer engagement. After Edmonton, SIX begins in Toronto on September 23 at the Royal Alexandra Theatre. Toby from Accounting won’t admit it, but we know he’s in love with the music; we can see him lipsynching to the live cast album on his headphones. Alas, it isn’t all happy news for July. This Sunday, we say a tearful goodbye to our production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child as it ends its record-breaking run at the CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre. That’s right — you only have few more chances to see this jaw-dropping production before it disappears from Toronto! |

THE ILLUSIONISTS RETURNS TO TORONTO
You heard it here first! We are bringing back The Illusionists this holiday season for one week only. The last three times we brought them to town, Luanne sat front row centre — with her prescription binoculars, no less — to figure out how they did all the magic. She was able to get these amazing seats thanks to the priority ticket access we give our loyal e-newsletter subscribers. You too could be like Luanne and sit front row with your prescription binoculars, but you gotta act fast! So watch your inbox in the coming weeks for your priority ticket window, and secure those front row seats before Luanne does!

42ND STREET OPENS TO RAVES IN LONDON
Jonathan Church‘s brand-SPANKING new production of the classic showbiz musical 42nd Street — which will be coming to us this holiday season — recently opened to rave reviews at London’s Sadler Wells Theatre. One of our most enthusiastic and loyal subscribers Mertel from Bowmanville emailed us with some of her favourite plaudits. We quite like them too!
“Utterly fabulous. Church’s production is a triumph of incandescent liquid choreography, the tap dancing sequences so mesmeric and weightless they induce a sort of trance. Classic tunes — We’re in the Money; Lullaby of Broadway; the noirish 42nd Street finale — send the soul soaring. If you want to feel the beat of the dancing feet, this really is the only show in town.” – The Telegraph “Irresistibly joyous new production of the tap-tastic musical about a musical! Jonathan Church’s new production of the shimmering 1933 Busby Berkeley movie turned-stage musical is a sequin-studded riot.” – Time Out “A perfect production. It’s (forty) second to none!” – Daily Mail |

IN DREAMS PREMIERES IN LEEDS NEXT WEEK
Toby from Accounting is a big fan of the musical & Juliet. If you were lucky enough to have seen the sold-out pre-Broadway engagement at the Princess of Wales Theatre last summer, you would’ve fallen in love with it just as much as Toby. So ever since we announced that we are presenting the new musical from writer David West Read and director Luke Sheppard (the creators behind last season’s smash & Juliet), he’s been extremely excited. This new musical, featuring the iconic songs of Roy Orbison, will have its North American premiere engagement at the CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre beginning September 26. Tickets just went on sale to the public today. The show is currently in tech rehearsals, but we do have a sneak peak video of the show with the cast — led by Tony-winner Lena Hall and Oliver Tompsett (who played Shakespeare in the original West End cast of & Juliet) — singing Roy Orbison’s Handle with Care, along with the creative team discussing their creation.
